ServiceNow: Simplifying The Entire IT Structure #VMworld

On this, the 3rd day of the VMworld Conference, being broadcast live on SiliconANGLE’s theCube, Wikibon’s Dave Vellante and theCUBE co-host Jeff Frick welcomed Arne Josefsberg, CTO for ServiceNow.

ServiceNow will be offering a presentation later today at the conference hailing their new roll-out which will be based on cloud provisioning, offering a rapid application development platform along with a full suite of Software as a Service (SaaS) applications. As Josefsberg commented, “It is a very natural extension from service management to operations management.” By this, he means it will streamline an organizations ability to provision and manage their Virtual Machines (VM).

ServiceNow is one of those small providers that has experienced huge growth in a short amount of time. When Josefsberg joined the company less than two years ago, their roster boasted some 700 customers. Today, ServiceNow has 1800 customers. And their philosophy of making IT easy and effective for their customers is what has driven that increase. In fact, the company’s last quarter earnings report showed them exceeding $100M for the first time. Their year-to-year growth is 80 percent.

While not wanting to take away from his own sales force, Josefsberg credits much of that success to his enthusiastic customer base stating, “Our best sales people are our customers. Customers have great success, and as they move to new companies they want to repeat their success.”

Where ServiceNow stands out in the cloud provider market is that they focus on total integration of a customer’s overall IT processes. As he mentioned, one doesn’t want a provider to come in and make big changes to a platform only to step out and watch your system go down. ServiceNow doesn’t focus on the individual tools involved as much as aiming to bring them all together into a coherent framework for IT.

He claims ServiceNow remains agnostic as to whether a customer opts to provision behind a firewall or use a public cloud model. Where ServiceNow excels is in providing a single system of record so any changes can be brought up from a single source.

Rounding out the interview, Josefsberg simply stated ServiceNow goes into an existing structure with the goal of simplifying the IT experience and providing a fundamental change for their customer. It is this commitment that helps their customers to realize an improved business value and revolutionizes the business operation on the whole.
