CES 2014 : LG + others launching these Smart Home apps

The Smart Home market is expected to boom in America by 2017, according to recent estimates by Parks Associates.  The firm projects that in five years more than 11 million U.S. homes will have some type of smart home controller installed, a huge increase from the current two million homes equipped with an automated solution.

At the Consumer Electronics Show 2014, Parks Associates will be hosting its annual CONNECTIONS Summit to provide attendees with updates in the connected home market.

CES 2014 will be taking place January 7-10, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Let’s check out what we can expect in the smart home market at the event.

OKIDOKEYS for home

OpenWays Group will be debuting OKIDOKEYS, its smart lock and keys, for home use at CES 2014.  OpenWays already provides some hotels.  When guests arrive, they no longer have to go to the front desk to check in, they just go straight to the room assigned to them and use the mobile key sent by the hotel to access the room.

The technology relies on carrier networks so even if guests don’t own a smartphone, they can still access the room.  OpenWays uses encryption technologies, including AES 256-bit and 3D Secure login to secure opening transactions and all related web-based transactions.  OpenWays wants the ease of securing and accessing hotel rooms be experienced by homeowners with OKIDOKEYS.

BitWise Controls Room Remote

BitWise Controls offers powerful, flexible control and automation systems and next year, it’s vying for consumer affection with the debut of its new Room Remote.  The Room Remote is designed not only to work wit BitWise connected devices but also with the BitWise Touch app.  The BitWise software allows for seamless synchronization between the app the device and vice versa so the remote can be used in any room of the house to control different connected devices.

LG HomeChat

LG will be showcasing a set of new smart appliances at the event, which will have a new feature called the HomeChat.  This allows consumers to monitor and control their smart appliances using their smartphones.

What makes this unique from other home automation solutions is that it is able to communicate with the consumer via Line, the instant messaging app.  HomeChat will be initially available in English and Korean.  As for Line, the messaging service is already available for Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Windows Phone, and Nokia Asha as well as desktops and laptops running Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, so using it to communicate with LG appliances equipped with HomeChat will be easier.
