Mesosphere, Inc. has announced that its Mesos clusters are now available on the Google Compute Engine, allowing Google Inc.’s cloud users to abstract basic devops, which simplifies the data center to look more like a single bit of hardware.
For those who don’t know what the Mesos Project is, it’s a cluster management tool that’s designed to simplify the complexity of running apps on a shared pool of servers. Mesosphere and the Mesos Project haven’t quite become household names yet, but by letting companies easily scale applications in their own data centers, or in public or hybrid clouds, they’re fast becoming important tools for some.
With the new partnership between Google and Mesosphere, public cloud users can now launch and deploy a mesos cluster in under ten minute. TechCrunch reports there’s a choice of two installations, including a developer cluster with four instances, and a production-ready cluster with 18 instances. Meso cluster management tools have also been added to the Google Compute Engine dashboard.
There could be plenty more to come from Google and Mesosphere’s partnership. In a second announcement, Mesosphere said it’s integrated support for the Google-backed Kubernetes open-source project into its own tools, enabling Docker container management.
The partnership could easily see both projects gain some more attention. Currently, they’re both fledglings in the world of open-source projects, but with more vendors jumping into support Kubernetes, Google’s project clearly has lots of potential for growth. And in turn that could lead to more people using Mesos clusters too.
TechCrunch speculates that Google might even look to acquire Mesosphere further on dwon the road, but that would depend on how this new relationship plays out.
