Twitter To Take Another Stab At Dipping Into The Music Business

October 16, Twitter Inc. announced on their blog that it would be providing Twitter users with a completely new audio experience.

Sharing music on Twitter has always had a strong presence and musicians are sharing on a daily basis. Twitter has now launched the Twitter Audio Card that allows you to listen to audio directly on your timeline through the iOS and Android mobile apps. With a single tap, you can start listening to the audio and view all the details full screen or you can minimize, without interrupting the audio, and continue browsing Twitter.

Twitter is collaborating with third-party streaming services and their first partner is SoundCloud.

You can now listen to music, podcasts and audio through a selected group of SoundCloud partners including @davidguetta, @NASA, and @Coldplay

In April 2013, along with partners Spotify AB, Rdio and Apple’s iTunes, Twitter launched their own music app. The aim was to enable users to discover music that is popular on Twitter and find new music based on the people they were following. The app was not a success and Twitter pulled it in March.

Twitter plans to make the Audio Card available to more partners and creators in future.
