How to use Facebook’s new ‘Say Thanks’ videos

Facebook Say Thanks demo videoJust in time for the holiday season, Facebook Inc. has released a new custom video feature that allows users to send a personalized thank-you to their friends and family. The videos take photos and Facebook posts to create a slideshow of moments shared by the two friends.

“Your friends are at the core of your Facebook experience, and we are always looking for new ways to help you celebrate those friendships,” Facebook Design Manager Cameron Ewing and Engineering Manager Nick Kwiatek wrote in a Facebook Newsroom post yesterday.

The new feature is available through both the desktop Facebook site and the Facebook mobile app, rolling out in English, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish.

How it works

Visit the “Say Thanks” video page at facebook.com/thanks, and then choose which friend you want to thank. This will bring up a preview video showing what the video will look like.

You then have several options of what theme you want to use and what photos and Facebook posts you want to include in the video.

Once you are satisfied with the video, you can click “Share,” giving you the option of writing a personal message before posting the video to your timeline. The post will have your friend’s name tagged so that it shows up on their timeline as well.

Ewing and Kwiatek wrote:

Share a Say Thanks video with a close friend, your significant other, a relative, a coworker, an old friend – or anyone else in your life who you’d like to celebrate. There is no limit to how many personalized videos you can create and share.

Here is a video showcasing the new “Say Thanks” feature.
