Bethesda Softworks LLC has announced it will be hosting a press conference at E3 for the first time, hinting at a big announcement coming for fans.

“We’re hosting our first-ever E3 Showcase in Hollywood, CA on June 14th and we’ve saved some seats just for you, our fans,” Bethesda wrote on its official blog. “Feel like a celebrity by attending our most exciting event yet, live and in-person!”

More information about registering for the event will be coming within the next few months, and for fans who will not be able to make the trek out to Hollywood for the big event, Bethesda will be livestreaming the entire press conference at twitch.tv/Bethesda.

The hype train has left the station

Even the announcement of an announcement can send Bethsoft fans into a frenzy, and the speculation about what game (or games) could be coming has spread across gaming communities and social media. So what games could have Bethesda upping its E3 presence? Well, there are a few.

Bethesda is best known for two hit RPG franchises: The Elder Scrolls series and Fallout. The last Elder Scrolls game, Skyrim, was released over three years ago, but considering the gap between Skyrim and Oblivion was nearly six years, it seems unlikely that an announcement for the next game in the series could be anything more than an early teaser at this point—hardly something worth a special press conference.

A new Fallout game, on the other hand, seems far more likely. Not counting the Obsidian Entertainment-developed Fallout: New Vegas, the last Fallout game released by Bethesda was 2008’s Fallout 3, nearly seven years ago. Fallout 3 came just two years after Oblivion, so the time would be just right for a Fallout 4.

While a Bethesda title seems a likely candidate for the E3 event, fans have not ruled out the possibility of other games published under the umbrella of Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media. ZeniMax owns several well known game franchises that might be due for a follow up, including Doom, Dishonored, and the recently revived Wolfenstein.
