Microsoft’s Sway app comes to iPad and gets updated for iPhone

Microsoft’s presentation app, Sway, released in Preview in 2014, is now available for iPad. The app has also been updated for iPhone, while Microsoft says there will be a Windows 10 version coming out in the summer.

In a blog post Microsoft commented on the app’s apparent popularity saying, “We’ve heard your feedback loud and clear that you’re eager for Sway apps.” Within only a few weeks of its release Sway was already attracting a lot of attention. It’s easy to see why, though one would think that Sway would mostly be popular with the younger crowd.

It’s basically an easy way to make a smart presentation. Taking images, video, music, and text from the web and various sources such as Facebook, YouTube, OneDrive or anything else saved to your devices, you can quickly put together a tapestry that is saved to your canvas. As an example you might want to send your lover an anniversary gift, a compilation of your time together with the song that was playing in the club the first time you met as a soundtrack. All you have to do is go through all the places you might find anything relating to the two of you and save them in the cloud, where the data can then be added to Sway. Another reason it will attract younger users is for putting together presentations for school.

As for the iPhone update, Microsoft just says that the functionality has been made even more simple and now there is an Edit and Preview toggle. Sway for iPad is much of the same, although it has been optimized for larger screens and includes a Remix function that allows you to try out different styles and layouts once you’re happy with your montage.

Microsoft has also reported that more languages have been added, so now the app is available in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
