Top dollar for old iPhones: Gazelle promises best trade-in value
If history is any indication, Apple is set to launch its new iPhones come September 9, 2015, with the handsets expected to be available for pre-order on the 11th and in stores by the 18th.
Current iPhone owners who wish to upgrade to the newer models can lessen the cost of upgrading by trading their old device for cash and there are a number of institutions that will give you a great deal. Some can offer as much as $442 for an iPhone 6 Plus, and you even get cash for very old and even broken handsets. If you’re looking for a place to trade your old iPhone for cash or store credit, see our initial roundup here.
Gazelle Inc. is another offering iPhone trade ins but this year, the company is even offering a sweeter deal with its special promotional pricing that promises better deals compared to what wireless carriers have to offer.
Starting September 2 and running through September 9, Gazelle guarantees that its cash offer for the iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus will beat the trade-in credit offered by a customer’s wireless carrier (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile or Sprint) or even Apple. Gazelle’s Best Price Guarantee will cover all colors and capacities of the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Terms of the promotion can be found here.
“Gazelle has always offered cash and great customer service but we’re now also guaranteeing consumers the best price,” said Sarah Welch, Gazelle’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Consumers are frustrated by confusing carrier offers that often require a lengthy commitment or other terms and conditions. Unlike the carriers, Gazelle prides itself on offering a simple customer experience with no strings attached. Gazelle’s industry-leading online experience also let customers sell their phones from home in just minutes, avoiding the long lines consumers are likely to run into at carrier stores following an iPhone launch.”
Easing consumer frustrations
Gazelle already offers one of the best deals for iPhones without this promotion, but what prompted this special initiative is a survey it recently commissioned. The survey was conducted with over 500 smartphone owners across the U.S. and it revealed that many of the respondents were confused and angry at their wireless carriers’ offerings with regards to purchasing a new iPhone and are seeking alternatives. The survey revealed that 42 percent are angry about losing carrier subsidies on the purchase of new iPhones, which now cost $650 or more, whether paid upfront or in monthly installments. Maximizing the value from trade-in is a great way to offset the high cost of upgrading.
Gazelle also noted that in the past, the value of older iPhones depreciated as the launch of the new device drew near, but in its Best Price Guarantee, it promises to deliver the best price for old devices even on launch day. If you look at the chart provided by Gazelle, you will notice that the value of the iPhone 4S started to decrease around two weeks prior to the announcement of the iPhone 5s and its value plateaued at around 80 percent about 10 days prior to the event. With Gazelle’s special promotion, it promises the best deal for the iPhone 5s. Based on the chart, price of the iPhone 5s has increased to more than 130 percent of its value days before the new iPhones are set to be revealed.
If you don’t believe Gazelle will give you the best price for your device, you can head on to gazelle.com/trade-in to get your free quote today. Gazelle will even ship you a box and postage for no cost if you choose to trade your device with them. And if by any chance you find an offer better than Gazelle’s, you can submit proof of it to customercare@gazelle.com an
Gazelle will give you cash in-hand (via check, Amazon gift card or PayPal) to help you buy the brand new iPhone 6s, unlike your carrier, which offers store and billing credit.
