Top gadgets we expect in Nest’s Store for smart homes

Google-owned Nest Labs, Inc. announced the Works with Nest program back in June 2014. Back then, only a handful of brands had partnered with Google and Nest for the initiative, but that list quickly grew. In just six months after the program launched, Nest added 15 new partners.

Because of the growing Works with Nest line, Nest announced that it will soon launch a dedicated Works with Nest Store. This means you’ll be able to conveniently shop for all Works with Nest products in one place.

Works with Nest is looking to make sense of the connected world for the mainstream consumer. Currently, there are now over 11,000 developers working with Nest to allow devices to communicate with each other. With Works with Nest, lights can automatically turn off when the Nest Cam detects that no one is home to deter intruders, music volume is turned down when Nest Protect alarm goes off so everyone can hear it, or the perfect temperature automatically set when you lie down in bed. It’s the little things.

Nest Protect

Aside from establishing its own standard by way of an online store, Nest is also looking to set protocol standards that will only enhance its ecosystem. By next year, it will be opening its Nest Weave platform to all developers interested in creating compatible connected home products. Nest Weave is a communications protocol that would allow connected devices to communicate directly with each other without having to connect to the Internet. Nest is already using Weave in its products – Nest Learning Thermostat, Nest Protect and Nest Cam – which allows them to smoothly communicate with one another.

Though Weave will not be available to all developers until next year, lock maker Yale (Assa Abloy) is the first third-party that was able to integrate Nest’s Weave, cloud services and app and created the Linus, a connected smart lock that allows users to check if the door is open, see who came and went, and create passcodes for family members and guests from the Nest app.

Aside from Linus, here are some other Works with Nest products we can expect to appear in the dedicated store:

Mimo Smart Monitor

Mimo Smart MonitorThe Mimo Smart Monitor works with the Nest Learning Thermostat so you can determine if your baby feels hot or cold and be able to adjust the room temperature remotely. It also works with the Nest Cam, notifying you of any changes in your baby’s sleep activities and be able to see them even when you’re not in the room.

Petnet SmartFeeder

Petnet SmartFeederThe Petnet SmartFeeder is a connected pet feeder that allows you to schedule when pet food will be dispensed, so you are always sure your pet is getting the right amount of food. With the Nest Cam integration, it will take a snapshot of your pet eating so you can rest assured that your little buddy is being nourished even when you are out.

Ooma Telo

Ooma TeloThe Ooma Telo is an Internet phone that allows home calls to be automatically forwarded to your mobile phone when you are out of the house, receive a call from home when Nest Protect detects smoke or carbon dioxide and ask you what action to take such as calling for emergency services, and even alert you if kids are late in getting home, or if an elderly has already started the day.

LG appliances

LG Electronics, Inc. offer connected appliances that have the HomeChat feature which allows users to monitor and control these connected appliances using their smartphone. If Nest detects that you are away, it can automatically send appliances into power saving mode or even alert you if you have left an appliance turned on, like an oven, which can be a fire hazard.

Withings Aura

Withings AuraWithings SA’s Aura is a system that helps you sleep better, and with Nest integration, room temperature can be automatically set to your preference the moment you lie down or wake up, or even turn off when Nest senses that you are away.
