Misfit debuts Shine 2, the ‘thinner, stronger, smarter’ wearable

The next generation of the Misfit Wearables’ fitness tracker is here, with the launch of Shine 2.

Despite being a more powerful version than the flagship Shine, the Shine 2 kept its reported 6-month battery life like its predecessor. The similarities continue with the aluminium disc that you can easily place into a variety of clips or bands, giving you the choice to wear it on your wrist, shoe, belt loop, or as a necklace.

The Shine 2 will continue to function as a step and sleep tracker and with the same 50m water resistance as its predecessor it will allow you to continue to track your swimming or avoid taking it off in the shower.

So what is new with the Shine 2?

The Shine 2 is a bit larger and thinner, yet keeps the 12 tiny LED lights studded around the surface of the display for notification purposes. However, what the Shine 2’s LED lights now offer is an incredibly wide range of 16 million colors. Different colors and patterns are displayed depending on the notification.

Misfit Wearables has also added vibration to the Shine 2, which is a common feature in other fitness trackers. The vibration can alert you to notifications or can be used as a silent alarm.

With the addition of a magnetometer, the Shine 2 will alert you to the fact that you have been sitting for too long and need to get up and move around – a feature that is becoming common in fitness trackers.

Bluetooth 4.0 has been added to Shine 2 to ensure faster data syncing with the compatible Misfit mobile app, allowing you to easily track your activity, sleep, weight and food intake.

The Shine 2 is available in carbon black or rose gold and retails for $100, which is an increase of $30 from its predecessor. It will be available in stores outside the U.S. in November.

The stylish jewelry-like fitness tracker is still battling to gain brand recognition in the U.S., but being one of the more stylish fitness trackers on the market and with a six-month battery life, perhaps the Shine 2 can be the version that makes the difference.
