Apple’s “quality control” fails again as reports emerge that the iPad Pro is seriously faulty

Apple, Inc. has long been famed for its quality control, so much so that the company has always demanded a premium price for its products, but that claim to fame is being called into question yet again with news that their new, top of the line iPad Pro has a serious problem.

According to various Apple support forum posts documented by Macrumors the device has a charging issue, specifically that after being charged, affected iPad Pros appear to be completely frozen, unresponsive to touch and other interactions.

Users are able to get the device working again when this occurs but only after undertaking a “force reset,” an option Apple itself has described previously as something users should only utilize as a last resort.

The first iPad Pro user to report the issue (many have since claimed they have the same problem) described the issue as follows:

“At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was “dead”. It wouldn’t wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.”

Apple surprisingly hasn’t denied that there is a problem and instead posted an official advisory complete with an admission of the problem and that they were looking into it:

Learn what to do if your iPad Pro doesn’t respond when you press buttons or tap on the screen, and the screen is black.

To get back to using your iPad Pro, force restart it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Apple is aware of this issue and is investigating.

“Quality control”

While it’s not clear at this time whether the issue is hardware or software related the serious issue users are having demonstrates that the bigger Apple gets, the worst its famous “quality control” over the devices it offers becomes.

PC fans have for many years noted that you can purchase the same hardware (in particular PCs) as that offered by Apple for far less with the only notable difference being the operating system; Apple users (including the author of this article) has long stuck with the company because its products “just work” and yet apparently the iPad Pro doesn’t even come close to that once famous Apple advertising line.

If you have an iPad Pro the only good news is that depending on where you purchased it from you may be able to return it and get your money back, because you certainly won’t be using it without a pile of drama to even turn it on after a charge.
