EMC’s Churchward talks Dell-EMC merger, all-flash innovations | #emcworld

From multiple new innovative products launched earlier this year to the pending merger with Dell, Inc., it is clear that EMC is upbeat about its position in the market and their path forward.

Guy Churchward, president of EMC’s Core Technology Division, sat down with John Furrier (@furrier) and Dave Vellante (@dvellante), cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during EMC World 2016 in Las Vegas, to talk about key product launches, the merger with Dell and the all-flash movement.

The ‘year of all-flash’

EMC announced earlier this year that 2016 would be the “year of all-flash,” announcing several new innovations in flash storage and moves toward creating all-flash solutions for virtually any data center scenario in use.

In the first few months of 2016, EMC has already made multiple launches of new technologies and products. In February, it launched VMAX All-Flash array, its new solid-state data storage technology and several associated products. March saw the launch of Data Domain Virtual Edition (software-defined storage).

Merger with Dell

Some organizations have been critical of the EMC-Dell merger, saying that it would essentially be too big to move forward and that there would be mass confusion. But Churchward refuted that opinion.

“No, that’s not gonna happen,” he said. “We’re done, and we’re executing, and everything that we’ve shown will be shipable this quarter.”
