iOS 10 beta 3 available: New features, tweaks & bug fixes

Apple seeded iOS 10 beta 3 to developers this week and with it is a variety of small features, tweaks, and bug fixes. While beta 3 is not as feature rich as iOS 10 beta 2, there is still a variety of changes that will further improve the operating system.

The final release of iOS 10 will happen after Apple’s event in September. If you are impatient to get your hands on the latest operating system you can download the public beta that is currently available. The public beta that is currently available is not the iOS 10 beta 3 that is currently available for developers. However if you wait a few days you can download the latest public beta version and get to enjoy iOS 10 as well as all the features listed below.

Here’s a look at the latest features and fixes that have been revealed so far in iOS 10 beta 3, including improvements in the Messages app, the ability to download directly to iCloud Drive, haptic feedback when locking your device, and more.

Download direct from Mail and Safari to iCloud

While this feature was introduced with iOS 10 beta 2, it wasn’t actually working. With beta 3 though, it is now possible to download files from the Mail app and Safari directly to your iCloud account.

Tip: You can also download directly from the Photos app to iCloud.

Improve Apple’s Health app

If you want to improve the Health app you can send your diagnostic and usage data through to the company, anonymously of course. The first time you use the app you will be prompted to enable it or can enable or disable it in Settings. Go to the Settings app > Privacy > Diagnostics and Usage > toggle Improve Activity On or Off.

AR Mode for Pokémon GO

With the huge success of augmented reality (AR) game, Pokémon GO users will be happy to know that AR mode finally works with the camera in iOS 10.

Improvements for Messages app

When selecting an image, the images will no longer be cropped in iOS 10 allowing you to see the full photo.

In addition, a bug has been fixed that previously allowed anyone to reply to messages on the Lock screen without unlocking the device.

Keyboard sound is back

Apple introduced a keyboard clicking sound in iOS 10 beta 1, removed it in beta 2, but now it returns in beta 3.

See which third-party apps use Siri

To ensure you are aware which third-party apps use Siri and can possibly access your data, iOS 10 beta 3 introduces a Siri Support section. Go to the Settings app > Siri.

3D Touch Share option

In iOS 10 beta 1, Apple introduced the 3D Touch Share option, with the latest beta the feature has been improved to include the full name of the app and icon, rather than just the icon

Haptic feedback when locking your iPhone

When you manually lock your iPhone 6s or 6s Plus you will receive a subtle haptic feedback from your device to let you know it is secure. Other iPhone models will make a sound when they are locked.

Rest Finger to Open

In iOS 10 beta 2, Apple introduced the ‘Rest Finger to Open’ feature, which allows you to unlock your device using Touch ID and resting your finger on the Home button, like in iOS 9.x. As the feature wasn’t functioning properly, it has been fixed in iOS 10 beta 3.

Lock screen

When you scroll below the time on the widget’s view screen, the clock will now move back up to the status bar.
