Google has announced various updates for Inbox by Gmail to ensure you stay up-to-date on project updates with Trello and GitHub integration. The email service now also provides previews of Google Alerts and integration with Google Drive, as well as various other user-requested features.

The features are rolling out across Inbox by Gmail on Android, iOS, and the Web.

Here’s a look at the various new features coming to Inbox.

Trello and GitHub integration

Trello

Integration with the project management application Trello, ensures you stay up-to-date on your notifications for all your boards by seeing a summary of what’s new in your Trello projects. When you receive a Trello summary in your Inbox, simply tap Open in Trello and go directly to the app or web page.

Note: To ensure you receive Trello summaries in your Inbox for specific Trello boards you will need to subscribe to the board. In the board Menu > select More > Subscribe. An ‘eye’ icon, shown on the left of the menu in the sidebar of the relevant board will indicate that you are subscribed to the board and will be notified of any changes.

How to action Trello notifications from your inbox

For any Trello notifications that don’t require your attention, simply mark them as Done by tapping the tick icon or delete them by tapping the trash can. You can respond to comments directly from the Trello notification in your inbox.

You can also action a notification later, by adding a reminder or snoozing the notification. Simply tap the clock icon and select the relevant time period. The notification will be removed and pop up again at the relevant time.

For important Trello notifications, you can pin them to the top of your inbox by tapping the pin icon.

GitHub

The latest update for Inbox by Gmail also offers integration with software collaboration platform GitHub. You will receive a summary in your inbox of any code changes and filed issues for each repository.

When you receive a GitHub summary in your Inbox, simply tap Open in GitHub and go directly to the app or web page.

Insert Google Drive links into emails

Inbox by Gmail also now offers integration with Google Drive. The update allows you to insert Google Drive links into your emails, adjust the permissions that have been granted for those links and save any email attachments directly to Google Drive.

Summarized Google Alerts

Inbox by Gmail - alerts

Inbox by Gmail now provides a summary of Google Alerts directly in your inbox. Tap on any of the News alerts to read more if you are interested, if not simply mark it as done.

Other Inbox by Gmail updates

Other minor updates requested by users include the ability to delete emails directly from your inbox on mobile. Previously you could only snooze an email or mark it as done.

When composing an email on the web, Inbox by Gmail now allows you to drag-and-drop contacts between the ‘to’, ‘cc’ and ‘bcc’ fields.
