Announcing its latest effort to turn its artificial intelligence platform Watson into a business with a standalone offering that supports open-source data management platform Apache Spark data management efforts and analytics, the IBM Machine Learning Launch takes place today in New York where IBM Corp. SiliconANGLE will be there with exclusive interviews from our roving news desk, theCUBE, including:
Amidst reports that IBM’s artificial intelligence-powered system Watson was lagging behind the company’s internal targets, the AI platform contributed to one of IBM’s more fruitful businesses in the fourth-quarter, a department accounting for 40 percent of the company’s total revenues. Cognitive computing remains a market of opportunity for IBM, with its own market survey finding 65 percent of early adopters already viewing the technology as “very important” to their success. Another 58 percent believe it will be a “must have” to remain competitive in three to five years.
This week, IBM announced the general availability of its Watson for Cyber Security platform, which went into beta testing in December. The platform has been designed to spot hidden cyberattacks and threats that could be missed by existing security platforms or humans. According to IBM only seven percent of security professionals currently use cognitive tools, but over the next two to three years this number is expected to triple. IBM will be hoping its Watson for Cyber Security platform will be well placed to obtain this increase in business.
