AWS Goes Global & Gets Thumbs Up from Auditors

image Another full week of cloud news, this time from Amazon.  Last night CTO Werner Vogels dropped two announcements via twitter:

#AWS is expanding into Asia! Multiple availability zones in Singapore first then AZs in other locations later in 2010

#AWS Completes SAS70 Type II Audit

Amazon has had operations and what they refer to as availability zones for some time now in North America and Europe, adding Asia was next logical step as they grow their cloud operations across the globe.

The second bit of news around SAS 70 Type II is a big accomplishment for Amazon’s efforts to target enterprises.  Service Providers that have been in the game a while such as Rackspace, Opsource and Salesforce have SAS 70 as a badge they wear to put enterprises at ease who want to adopt their services.

As medium and large enterprises continue to educate themselves about the cloud computing movement and potentially move to adopt public cloud providers having the certification will help greatly to answer the age old question of security and processes.
