Seesmic Updates iPhone & Desktop Apps, Staying Ahead of Several Curves

Seesmic, the cross-platform social networking client that covers all of the major social networking sites on the web, has updated its iPhone and desktop apps over the weekend to contain even more features, much to the liking of this free app’s users.

“Here are a few highlights for the mobile updates:

  • Retina Display Compatible for iOS 4
  • Creating and adding users to Twitter lists
  • In-Reply-To-Conversation and Direct Messages in Threads
  • Checking your private Facebook Messages
  • Pull-down to Refresh
  • Instapape & Read it Later integration in the app”

The Seesmic app updates are particularized for Twitter, Facebook and the app’s own interface & engine. Moreover, these are only a part of the tweet, like and Web 2.0 social time killing oriented acquisition, as some of the other updates include numerous notable bug fixes, fast app switching compatibility, threaded directed twitter messages, viewable friend lists and their profiles as well as numerous others.

Mobile is spreading. With more and more people reducing their time spent on desktops and laptops in favor of ever growing powerful tablets and Smartphones, not developing apps to be more powerful, agile and robust as fast as possible would be negligence at best by every IT Company and start-up looking to get noticed.

Seesmic is getting more attention by the minute, and this is also due to its broad appeal and points of access.  To remain competitive with the Twitter app market, Seesmic’s recently launchd desktop app has gotten some updates already.

  • LinkedIn timelines – The issue blank timelines for the LinkedIn accounts has been addressed and should now be resolved.
  • Twitter fixes – Fixed issues regarding Search and sending DMs. Also, when you block a user, their messages are now removed in Seesmic Desktop 2. You can also un-favor a tweet successfully. And usernames for auto-complete have been updated and are now sorted alphabetically
  • Google Buzz update – Items are now added correctly to aggregated timelines
  • Sound notifications – Desktop notifications now should play a sound to alert users of incoming messages. Can also disable this is settings.
  • Horizontal Scroll Bar – Issues with the horizontal scroll bar for the columns area should be resolved and working smoothly.

For Seesmic, remaining relevant in the game means finding a way to aggregate multiple social media channels and provide a unifying tool for the end user.  This is a method many similar apps will need to take, and Seesmic’s agnostic approach is especially useful as it positions the company well for future growth and monetization.
