In a blog, Drop.io confirmed that they have “struck a deal with Facebook” and this gives Facebook much of the technology and assets of the website. Consequently, Sam Lessin will reunite with Facebook and work full-time. Drop.io’s operation “will be winding down,” though paid user accounts will still be available till Dec. 15. After which, it would be a total operation shut down.
“We can confirm that we recently completed a small talent acquisition for Drop.io and acquired most of the company’s assets,” the e-mailed statement from Facebook said. “We’re thrilled that Sam Lessin will be joining us at Facebook.”
As a son of a Wall-Street investor Bob Lessin and a close friend of Mark Zuckerberg during his Harvard days , Sam was the one who introduced Zuckerberg to venture capitalists and finance and media executive back in 2004, as related in “The Facebook Effect,” a book by David Kirkpatrick accounting the early days of Facebook. He has also helped out Joe Green, a classmate and political activist. Housing Green and a team programmers in their New Jersey rest house, they were able to come Causes with Facebook ex-president Sean Parker.
