Ebyline gets financial support via EW Scripps investment of $1.5 million. Ebyline is a startup online marketplace that brings together journalists and content providers to sell their work to publishers, as reported.
This is just the first round of support that Ebyline will get from EW Scripps. The latter has been very active in improving its media business by ramping up their digital efforts. In a report read on SiliconAngle, EW Scripps revenue increased amidst the economic drought experienced by most ventures within the industry. They also resurrected Shopzilla’s dying relevance in the e-Commerce with 7.2% increase in profits.
Within Ebyline, journalists and writers that were interviewed and selected from a pool of candidates can readily pitch in and make contents or articles that will focus on stories from present and the past, whatever the buying client wishes. Publishers go here to not only purchase specific materials but to also catch some good people that they can hire for future assignments. Ebyline makes money by getting an 8% cut from the fees that the buyers or publishers will pay the providers. Ebyline can also be used by the publishers as a platform to sell their own content. Variety uses services of Ebyline to sell their movie reviews to other publishers.
This organization was formed from the efforts of 2 former LA Times publishers Jeffrey Johnson and Leo Wolinsky. It was founded in 2009, but full throttle in operations commenced just last month. It is very unique in a sense that Ebyline follows an a la carte business model. Publishers can choose from individual stories and buy them at once.
