14 Applications to Warm Up Your Chrome Web Store

So it’s official, Google announced its first operating system that will stand as an alternative of Microsoft’s Windows 7 and Apple’s Snow Leopard, the Chrome OS. It will only work on products approved and launched by Google though but the fact that its absolutely free makes it kind of super. (Check out our photo essay of Google’s OS announcement event here).  The Chrome web store, however, is already here, and ready to play.

While at the moment Chrome’s web store will only be offering a limited selection of applications, initially restricted to the U.S., there will be more to come in the future. But what’s good about these first apps is that 90% of them are free!

Here’s  14 applications that you can use with the brand new Chrome OS:

Amazon WindowsShop

This app offers an interactive way for Amazon customers to shop and is mainly composed of images similar to iTunes. The home page features columns with categories such as Bestsellers and New Releses & Pre-Orders. You can log in using your existing Amazon account, and get your usual recommendation and secure them to you your wishlist.

Citrix Receiver

An app will allow Google customers to operate existing Windows business applications immediately on the web-based Chrome notebooks while retaining the native user experience, full enterprise security and high speed functioning. Consequently, Google customers will have a fast, lightweight, web-based notebook PC experience while still enjoying the easy and secure access to their Windows-based work applications, desktops and data. This eliminates the hassle of compromise when you shift operating system, and makes it a really good alternative for Windows 7.

YouTube

A rather familiar app because of its exact resemblance of the layout in your browsers while you browse and embed videos from your library and from Youtube, as well as monitoring your favorite users when they add new videos.

Springpad

This application provides quick access to notes, drafts and thoughts you want to keep and smartly organize in a cloud environment, accessible from anywhere — whether from your home PC, mobile phone or tablet.

Tweetdeck

Yes, Chrome OS also runs Tweetdeck, and what makes it amazing is that it eliminates Adobe Air. This means less hassle but with has improved interface, design, icons and photo preview. You can also import all your existing Tweetdeck settings. The only downer about this app is that like every other versions, it freezes a lot.

Picasa

A app that is dedicated to photo-sharing sites and allows us to share snapshots with online friend. It offers up to 1GB of free storage, which accounts to 4,000 images with tag and geotag capabilities.

Listube (free)

Like Spotify, it gives you free access to music on demand– but the quality might not be that good. You can create you own list and share them with your friends. Also, you can easily search by songs or artist.

Jolicloud (free)

This might come off a little confusing but Jolicloud is an operating system within an operating system’s web browser running as an application. Jolicloud is essentially an OS that’s built around your cloud life, connecting you to all of your favorite online apps, social media, videos, photos and files from any computer worldwide. If you’re a Jolicloud user, you’ll love this one.

Todo.ly (free)

Todo.ly is an app that allows you to create to-do list, and manage and access them from anywhere in the world. Simple dragging and dropping is all it takes to organize your tasks into projects and sub-projects. The tasks will automatically appear in your Today list when the day arrives. This is a great app that even your kids can utilize.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online

A game from EA Sports which claims to be the most realistic EA golf simulation on the web. It allows you to customize your pro-golfer and send him off to daily and weekly tournament on some the world’s most famous golf courses. You can chat with fellow online players as well.

A good alternative to Powerpoint especially when it’s giving the occasional performance tantrum. You can choose from a selection of layouts and themes for your presentation, and adding of videos from your library and Youtube is very handy. Moreover, it supports HTML5 viewer for iPad and iPhone so you can carry them even everywhere. The presentation will appear the same on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Seesmic

A popular app that will consolidate all your social networks in one place. Keep up with Fousquare, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter without the hassle of multiple tabs.

Google Pacman
