Aiming to address the needs of enterprises in structuring cloud storage and managing exploding data growth while controlling storage costs, Symantec, a global leader in providing security, storage and systems management solutions, today announced Symantec FileStore N8300, a scale-out, clustered network attached storage (NAS) appliance.
Filestore N8300 enables customers to manage unstructured data, which accounts for an alarming 85% of all organizational information, with a scalable, high performance and manageable file storage and archiving solutions in on-premise and cloud environments. FileStore N8300 is built on Symantec’s Veritas Storage Foundations and is integrated with other Symnatec’s solutions such as Enterprise Vault, NetBackup, Storage Foundation’s SmartTier and Norton AntiVirus security. Moreover, it is built on commodity hardware, scales capacity non-disruptively, and is one of the top performing NAS systems based on the SPECsfs benchmark. All of this looks to offer organizations an ideal and integrated solution for building out cloud storage.
“Managing the explosive growth of unstructured data is a major challenge for enterprises and cloud providers,” said Yogesh Agrawal, vice president of Symantec’s FileStore Product Group. “Symantec FileStore N8300 helps organizations address these challenges and begin to curb the associated costs with a high performance and scalable storage solution that integrates with the information management portfolio of Symantec to effectively store and manage this data.”
Symantec FileStore N8300 is now out in United States, U.K., Italy and the UAE. It will be available soon to other regions as well. Price was estimated to start at $72,648.
Stressing other industry developments, Juniper Networks recently released updates on Microsoft Windows security covering Microsoft Data Access Vulnerability, as well as teamed with Terra, a leading Brazilian online media provider, to enable employees’ secure and remote access to corporate systems and sensitive data from devices such as smartphones, iPads etc. Hotwire also recently shifted to Oracle Exadata Machine to meet the exploding demands for more storage space.
Cloud security industry is taking full advantage of the mobile’s growing sector as well. We’re seeing a lot of companies develop security services for mobile devices. McAfee recently released its mobile threat predictions for this year, as well as appointing David Small as Vice President of channel and commercial business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa regions.
