Kristian Larsen Schools Us on Creativity with an Android Smartphone Concept Design

triple-fold-flip A beautiful video named “What is Creative” is making the rounds of the Internet right now featuring a design concept for an amazing Android smartphone design concept. The video asks the viewer, “What is creative?” and then goes on to make a series of koan-style statements while presenting different types of human-technology interaction involving a sleek, black smartphone with unique morphing capabilities.

We don’t have such a phone with us yet, but if we did, I would love to buy it.

In the video, the all-black fantasy-phone is capable of hinging into a triangular display, allowing the user to rotate the phone vertically to scroll through contacts; it hinges outwards into a dual-page display, allowing for book-like reading of an e-book; and even phone-to-phone touch sharing.

All the while, an inspiring melody plays out in the background on the wings of a guitar and piano duet.

This Flip phone concept is introduced by designer Kristian Ulrich Larsen, but its technology doesn’t exist yet. The technology displayed suggests a triple AMOLED touchscreen design and, of course, everyone expects it to be powered by Google Android. Still, that’s no reason not to enjoy this beautiful video and imagine a more creative smartphone future.

We may not always create or invent, but we always learn when we try.
