Oracle Utilities Teams with MESA, Aids the Education Sector

Oracle Utilities is scheduled to demonstrate its continued leadership in utilities industry at DistribuTECH 2011 to be held at San Diego, California on February 1-3.

The first from Oracle’s lineup of specialist to speak during the event is Brad Williams, vice president of product strategy, Oracle Utilities and Alan Dulgeroff, director of asset management, San Diego Gas & Electric, where he’ll be discussing how to best utilize smart grid operations. It’s an effort that deals in the green sector, which is a growing area of interest for large cloud companies.  IBM is another recognized leader in this arena, topping the Green List 500, while Ice Energy has been marching onward with their eco-friendly ways, too.

“Enhancing grid reliability and efficiency is key as utilities move toward leveraging the power of the smart grid. At DistribuTECH 2011, we look forward to showcasing Oracle’s applications and technology — including network management, meter data management and mobile workforce management applications — that help utilities manage operations agilely and communicate rapidly with consumers for maximum efficiency. We offer solutions that utilities need today to address a single business process, or a portfolio of technology and applications to address entire smart metering or smart grid initiatives,” said Linda Jackman, group vice president, Oracle Utilities.

In addition to hitting the green beat, Oracle’s racking up more brownie points with an education drive. The Oracle Education Foundation (OEF) recently partnered with Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA), bringing 21st century knowledge to students in California, Colorado, Maryland and Washington through ThinkQuest, which will take place over the next two years. ThinkQuest offers a project environment that supports collaborative learning; a technology competition that challenges students to solve real-world problems; the award-winning ThinkQuest Library, a learning resource visited by millions; and professional development for educators.

“The Oracle Education Foundation’s mission is to help students develop the critical thinking, communication, and technology skills needed for life and work in the 21stcentury. Using ThinkQuest and participating in the competition will provide MESA students with the platform and activity needed to build these critical skills,” said Brad Saffer, Vice President, Oracle Corporate Citizenship.
