WHERE Launches Perfect Places, Forges Bump Partnership

Location-based mobile company WHERE announced the new Perfect Places feature for its mobile apps, which seems to replicate the concept of social networking to a local, real-life extent. The feature recommends users local places they would be interested in visiting by matching similarities in their activity.

Walt Doyle, WHERE CEO says “There’s been tremendous excitement around location-based social networking and with Perfect Places, WHERE is delivering a truly social experience to users. We’re taking local recommendations to the next level and are well on our way to owning the pre check-in space.”

In addition to automatic recommendations, WHERE also announced a partnership with Bump Technologies. The partnership with the Silicon Valley start-up, who’s responsible for an app which enables users to share data by bumping their devices, brings the same functionality to Perfect Places. WHERE users can now bump their handsets to exchange local places recommendations, further intensifying the local social networking WHERE Inc. is aiming at.

With this partnership, Bump seems demonstrated the potential for which it recently raised $16.5 million in funding. Nevertheless, but Perfect Places is not the only thing going in the location-based mobile services segment right now.

Our News Editor Kristen Nicole interviewed mobile recommendation service Bizzy’s founder and CEO Gadi Shamia. The start-up recently  launched its Android app, expanding its reach beyond the web and iPhone demographic. Constant Content also announced a Big Data partnership with WeRewards, and MapQuest launched its Android app, orienting your location in another manner.  It all boils down to finding the best mechanism for location-based services, and their monetization.  What’s important to note here is the trend around data market exchanges, as mobile apps discover new ways to talk to each other.
