Yolink Tackles WordPress Search. Whoa!

Yolink is turning WordPress search on its head, launching a new blog platform search tool, with the help of WP Engine. What Yolink set out to do is address the standing issues with WordPress search, which sorts results according to date by default.  There have been several solutions presented for WordPress over the years, from blog network tools to Custom Google Search, but Yolink’s trying to one-up them all.

The new Yolink WordPress plugin organizes results based on relevancy, with search indexing for both pages and blog posts.  It works in real-time, indexing quickly in the cloud, and even skims down unwanted ads that appear in other WordPress search solutions.  Yolink’s designed its search plugin to work to the publisher’s advantage, while also making things really easy and intuitive for readers.

Yolink’s search plugin for WordPress also highlights key words, making it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for.  There’s also a side panel that summarizes search results, helping to filter and navigate the search.  Yolink’s also incorporated some social sharing features, letting readers send articles to Facebook or Twitter, bookmark or email, directly from the search results.  All of these features are customizable, so you can choose which social sites to include in your plugin, or skip them all together.

It’s the technology behind yolink’s tool that makes it so specialized, and able to address existing search issues for WordPress, and other sites.  It peeks behind URLs to get to the good stuff, parsing out the necessary details pertaining to your search.  TigerLogic, the database search service behind yolink, has been developing the core technology for 25 years, based on a research tool, and forming into the scalable solution we have today.  After releasing its API under yolink, the company’s been discovering some great ways to apply its technology, and developing some great partnerships along the way.

“With yolink Search for WordPress, readers will no longer be disoriented, deterred, or frustrated when searching on WordPress sites,” said Jason Cohen, co-developer of yolink Search for WordPress, and co founder of WP Engine.  “WordPress search has been a problem for a long time. Previous search options available to the community have been unacceptable and we’re happy to have built a tool that just works the way you want it to.”

As search becomes a hotbed for innovation, yolink presents a set of tools that others can apply to their individual needs.  With new trends developing around location and social pivots, the very face of search is changing, and even affecting industries, including journalism.  At SXSW earlier this year Mark “Rizzn” Hopkins got a chance to chat with yolink, and hear a little about their core concepts as a search resource.  See here for Mark’s early look at yolink.
