Oracle BI Aims for iPad, Mobile Enterprise

Today Oracle released the latest version of its Business Intelligence software. Business Intelligence Release 11.1.1.5 comes with full iPad and iPhone support, and eliminates the need to rewrite existing dashboards and reports, according to the company. Users can now access and carry out all the actions via their iOS device they would be able to do using a desktop. V11.1.1.5 also comes with more support for data sources, including Oracle’s TimesTen in-memory database, SQL Server Analysis Services and SAP Business Information Warehouse.

The software maker also released the latest versions of its BI Applications.  “The 7.9.6.3 applications release features a refreshed user interface with access to geospatial data, data modeling improvements and a number of tools for system management, testing and patching.”

While Oracle beefs up its BI offerings, its own business intelligence is getting a boost of its own.  Not long ago, we learned that Oracle won a battle in its lawsuit against Google. The company claims the internet giant has made copyright infringement on nemorous of its Java patents, a programming language which it has bought as a part of its 2010 Sun Microsystems acquisition. A California has reportedly largely sided with the company.

Roughly the same time, we’ve learned that Jeff Epstein, the most recent chief financial officer of the company, has left Oracle. Co-president Safra Catz succeeded him effective immediately. Competitor SAP is also pushing the business intelligence front, and SiliconANGLE.tv covered Co-CEO Bill McDermott’s keynote live.

When it comes to business intelligence and data analytics, more and more segments are making use of it. mBlast recently released the free version of its mPact offering – a cloud-based app which aggregates tremendous amounts of from social networks, blogs and the rest of the web to determine the top influencers for marketers to watch. News Corp., Skype, Turner Broadcasting and others are also leveraging big data analytics, but on the mobile front. Mobile app analytics is an accelerating market aligned with the growth of the mobile industry as a whole, and an indicator of that is Localytics’ recent round of funding.
