Major RIM Outage Takes Down Blackberry

Reports are spreading about a mass intercontinental Blackberry outage that is affecting millions across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The outage is affecting email, web, messaging, and data capabilities on its network of phones. Speculation centered in one report from The Telegraph of London that a single data server based in southern England is affecting all the reported regions. Officially, RIM has only released the following information on their Twitter presence: @UK_BlackBerry @blackberryhelp

“Some users in EMEA are experiencing issues. We’re investigating, and we apologise for any inconvenience.”

And later on…

“We apologize to any of our customers in Europe, Middle East & Africa still experiencing issues. We’ll bring you an update as soon as we can,”

The latest status is that the service is still experiencing issues with no known ETA, having first reported issues about 3 hours ago. Research into identifying and isolating the issue is ongoing. No other details have been confirmed, but the outage is believed to be affecting tens of millions of users.   Historically, a number of outages affecting the RIM network have been experienced by the user community.  Typically, information on the nature of the past outages have been minimal.
