Veterans Day Gets Techie: Job Opportunities, e-Book Donations

So what do you really think about this: 11-11-11?  If you’re into numerology or Feng shui, this date could signify a lucky day.  If you’re one of those people who are waiting for the end of the world, some say that today is the start of the countdown to the end which will end on December 21, 2012 – according to the Mayan Calendar.  But if you’re a US Veteran, this day is really significant for reasons that have little to do with numerology.

Veterans Day is an annual holiday that celebrates and honors military veterans.  November 11th was chosen for the simple reason that major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.

The tech industry joins the celebration with job opportunities as well as eBook donations.

Enable America, a non-profit organization backed by a number of companies including IBM, launched a program that would help veterans get jobs.  They offer two programs that would help veterans in their job pursuit.  The first program is Career Mentoring Days, which matches “mentors from local companies with mentees from the community, disabled veterans and wounded warriors to help the veteran learn more about their career interests and add to their network of individuals who can help land a job. Second, is our ‘Job Seekers Workshops’, taught by human resource professionals, who become ‘Career Coaches’ assigned to each of the participants.”

“We increasingly find more employers wanting to help those who have paid a price in defending liberty, both disabled veterans and the wounded warriors who are most recently returning from Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Richard Salem, founder and CEO of Enable America. “Enable America is proud that for the third straight year we can focus this month’s events on this very deserving portion of the American population.”

Credit Vault Publishing, A Division of Credit Vault, Inc., donates $1,000,000 of its eBook publication earnings, Escaping Credit Hell – A Tactical Guide from the Inside – MILITARY EDITION in honor of Veterans Day.  One hundred thousand copies of the eBook will be available to ANY active duty service member from November 11, 2011 until December 31, 2011 to benefit America’s military personnel and their families in navigating the somewhat complex credit rating and finance industries after serving our country in some of the most dangerous assignments known.

“In addition to the tremendous amount of information on our U.S. credit system, there are specific laws within the Service members Civil Relief Act (SCRA) that protect our active duty military personnel while they are on deployment. Very few of our service members are aware of the protections they are afforded while serving our nation,” stated Darby Hershey, CEO of Credit Vault Inc. and a Navy Vietnam Veteran.

“As a Veteran myself, I am very pleased to be working with Credit Vault Publishing, a Veteran owned business, to offer this valuable insider information to America’s service members.” Roger Cruise, Author.

Here at SiliconANGLE, we only have deep respect and gratitude for all the veterans out there.  We salute you!
