Alfred Comes To Android with a Hungry AI

After months of looking over your friend’s shoulder or borrowing your sister’s iPhone just so you can use Alfred, the nifty AI app that points your tummy in the right direction when you’re hungry, is finally available in Android-based devices.

“You’ve been asking, and we’ve been coding away — Alfred for Android is finally here!  We are super excited to share Alfred with Android users, and we can’t wait to hear what you think. What’s in store? The Alfred that you’ve been coveting for months comes with a new design with all of the goodies that our iOS users loved,” read a statement by Clever Sense.

The Android version of Alfred is quite different, as it has been optimized for Android interface and iOS features were refined.

Features:

  • Quick Pick – right off the bat, Alfred recommends a place to eat even if you haven’t specified anything, the nearest restaurants in your current location will be recommended.
  • Filters Pull-up Menu – recommendations are easier to sort out as you can choose parameters to broaden or narrow the search like the price range or budget, the type of food you are looking for and even the location.
  • Find Tool – if you still can’t make up your mind, you can get really specific with your search, telling Alfred where you want to go, the type of food you want to eat etc.
  • Continuous Learning – the more you tell Alfred which ones you like or dislike, the more he will be able to correctly recommend stuff for you.  Aside from that, recommendations have justification as Alfred tells users why a certain restaurant is being recommended like if it is like one of favorite restaurants.

All these features are possible because of Clever Sense’s Extraction Engine, which curates large amounts of unstructured data through natural language processing, statistical machine learning, and data mining algorithms while learning meaningful concepts that are descriptive of physical items in the real world, and the Serendipity Engine which is a personalized, context-aware discovery engine that adds a layer of real-time machine learning algorithms and intelligent agent architecture to the the Clever Sense Interest Graph.

In October Clever Sense introduced Group Recommendations to their iOS app.  The Group Recommendations keep track of where you and your friends dine so the next time you pull-up your friends name using Alfred, there will be recommendations based on your previous choices.

AI is a growing technology, but it seems restaurant recommendations is one of the most proliferate areas to focus this technology on.  Alfred’s facing a highly competitive market with others like Bizzy and even Google Maps seeking the best way to create a personalized experience based on a wealth of data.  Mobile has really helped push AI along, and we’re only going to see more services pop up in the coming years.  As Clever Sense solidifies its mobile reach with an Android version, it’s clear they’re looking to push their technology further with a widened user base for faster learning.
