Custom App Optimization with New Relic’s Latest Integration

Cloud-based app performance monitoring service New Relic has been integrated into CloudSwing, an open-source PaaS by OpenLogic. CloudSwing is based on the concept of allowing the user to do a lot of customization in order to optimize how their apps are running in the cloud, and entered general availability in September. OpenLogic says it’s doubled the number of customers since the launch date, and now it’s looking to enhance its service with greater visibility.

“Offering New Relic Standard free of charge for complete application monitoring allows CloudSwing to go beyond the server- or instance-level monitoring offered by most cloud providers,” said Rod Cope, Chief Technology Officer at OpenLogic. “New Relic provides all of the key metrics that our CloudSwing customers need to monitor and manage their cloud applications.”

OpenLogic made a special point of the fact other monitoring services are also available to users that may not be interested in using New Relic, which aligns with the service’s anti-lock-in mantra.

The partnership between New Relic and OpenLogic was announced the day after the former entered into a similar relationship with Tier 3. The enterprise-grade public cloud provider sought to extend the hardware and OS-level monitoring it already offered to the browser-side. Just like with CloudSwing the free edition of New Relic has been built into every deployment, and companies have the choice of upgrading to the premium version from within Tier 3’s web-based dashboard.

New Relic’s efforts to increase the popularity of its monitoring and analytics service are fueled by what the company referred to as “overwhelming demand.” They’re also fueled by the $15 million it raised from investors DAG Ventures, the Four Rivers Group, Allen & Company, Benchmark Capital and other VCs in a mid-November funding round.
