Showreel Discusses Technology’s Impact on Graphics at NAB [VIDEO]
Showreel’s Eric Jackson is one of the many graphic design and media experts that attended the NAB conference this week, along with SiliconANGLE’s John Furrier and Wikibon’s Dave Vellante. He stopped by theCube half-way through his tour at the expo to share his insight on how technology and new software is influencing his segment overall, including key trends such as mobile (see full interview below).
Jackson started by giving some background about his company, a Hollywood-based production services firm that deals with corporate content such as investor relations videos and other material. From his point of view the flurry of new tools and solutions is good for business – it allows Showreel to commit to relatively low-budget contracts that could not have been completed without them. He named DCLRD and high-speed recording as two, although the real magic happens in post-production.
Jackson cited higher-performance processors as one improvement, although the more noticeable one was mobile. It enables instant changes on the field, or set in this case, trimming the cost of later revisions and making it more plausible to stick to the deadline.
Later in the interview the conversation moved to the near term future of the media and production space. The Showreel director expects an expansion in the industry talent pool thanks to the increasing availability of professional tools. More affordable cameras and software will put new tools in the hands of smaller creative service providers, which may be able to set the bar higher for the industry overall as their number grows.
The interview with Eric Jackson didn’t end with that. Among other things he also expanded on market dynamics in his industry and the way companies should view production projects in general: something more akin to outsourced R&D, at least in terms of the details and expectations from management.
