Accenture Boosts IPTV Buy with Nokia Siemens Assets

This week IT consultancy Accenture acquired rights for some of Nokia Siemens Networks’ IP broadcasting software and related assets, which apparently include NSN 20 employees across the U.S and Europe.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Accenture is making a move to beef up its existing line-up for video content providers. That is compromised primary of the Accenture Video Solutions and a number of services that the firm bundles along with it. Video Solutions is used by a number of big clients around the world, including Dutch networks KPN and Mediaset as well as OTT, which pegs itself as Italy’s largest television service provider. The Mediterranean broadcaster couples content with IP-based interactive services.

The new Nokia IP will be integrated with the software to create a more rounded-out product suite.

“The combination of Nokia Siemens Networks’ IPTV assets with Accenture’s over-the-top TV software and capabilities, will deliver an exciting new combination of services to the global video industry,” Marco Vernocchi, managing director of Accenture’s Media & Entertainment industry group, said. “The scalable and flexible end solution we are creating will help video service providers dramatically change the way they approach content distribution while balancing costs.”

The agreement follows a similar deal between Nokia Siemens and Network and Belgacom announced earlier this year. The telco also bought IPTV assets, and 25 workers have been transferred from NSN as a part of the transaction.

Accenture in turn is becoming more aggressive with its portfolio, and as one of the biggest IT service providers out there, it’s not afraid to target specific markets. A couple months ago the company made another niche buy when it acquired NewsPage, a maker of back-office software for the consumer goods industry.
