Citrix Overhauls ShareFile for Android with Latest Patch

Desktop virtualization firm Citrix  just updated its mobile collaboration app with improvements all across the board that show off some new endpoint know-how. The Android version of ShareFile has been augmented with more admin features, reporting capabilities, and a few other notable additions.

The new release of ShareFile comes equipped with so-called poison pill function that allows administrators to put an expiration date on sensitive data, just in case. Extra accessibility options also make it possible to limit whether a file used by a third party application or saved offline. Up until now ShareFile did not support local saves.

In addition to the security enhancements, the app can provide native access to Active Directory profiles. Citrix also says that it has tweaked auditing and reporting capabilities a bit and redesigned the interface to better accommodate more savvy users with multiple ShareFile accounts.

The company attached cookie cutter analyst quote to the official release which sums up why clients should pay attention to the update.

“By the middle of 2014, 83 percent of organizations will have embraced mobile workstyles–up from 24 percent today,” said Jesse Lipson, VP and GM, Data Sharing, Citrix. “Work is no longer a place you go, it’s something you do. By delivering an intuitive experience that users love with security and controls that make it easy to manage information across organizations, ShareFile is empowering mobile workstyles.”

Increased productivity is one reason enterprises are adopting cloud locker services, but for the most part, it’s because they simply can’t avoid it. Employees are accessing their Dropbox accounts at work on their own initiative, and management’s only viable option is to offer a more secure alternative. At least that’s  Bill Carovano’s angle, a senior director at Citrix’s Data Sharing unit.
