A reclusive and secretive state–North Korea, where virtually no one is being allowed on the interwebs, is blaming the United States for a massive cyber attack has taken the country offline over the past two days. For this so-called cyber attack, North Korea is warning that the US and its allies “should be held wholly accountable.” Looks like there are more funny stories coming for HackAngle here!
The accusation has been filed by North Korea’s Central News Agency (KCNA) that called this incident “very disturbing developments” and “despicable and base acts”.
“Intensive and persistent virus attacks are being made every day on internet servers operated by the DPRK. These cannot be construed otherwise than despicable and base acts of the hostile forces consternated by the toughest measures taken by the DPRK after launching an all-out action. It is ridiculous, indeed, for the hostile forces to mount such virus attacks on the DPRK’s internet servers, much upset by the all-out action of its army and people to defend the sovereignty of the country and the nation. They are seriously mistaken if they think they can quell the DPRK’s voices of justice through such base acts,” KCNA said.
The irony and hilarious part behind is that majority of the North Korean citizens aren’t even allowed to access the World Wide Web. So, this allegation on USA does not make any sense. The country has had a restricted 3G network since 2008, run by Egyptian/North Korean JV Koryolink, wireless data connectivity was only switched on last month, for foreigners, tourists and presumably former NBA stars.
So, even if there was any disruption to the web servers, it must have been a few, and only “elite” members of North Korean society, as well as a select group of academics and scientists, would be affected.
