Yahoo! Snatches Up Four More Companies in Pursuit of Talents and Technologies
Marissa Mayer’s determination to by Yahoo’s way out of trouble shows no signs of letting up, as the web giant announced yet another acquisition this morning – this time it’s gone and bought up Loki Studios, a mobile gaming company made popular by its location-aware game Geomon.
“We are thrilled to be joining the exceptional folks at Yahoo!. We believe fully in their commitment to creating outstanding mobile products. We are excited to learn from, work with, and contribute to one of the most well-known pioneers of the tech industry,” Loki announced on its site.
The Loki acquisition makes it the fourth company Yahoo has brought under its wings in this month alone. Last week, Yahoo acquired GoPollGo, a social polling site which has Twitter and Facebook integration that lets brands and media properties collect and analyse feedback; Astrid, a to-do list and personal assistant mobile app; and MileWise which developed an app that optimizes travel rewards.
“We’re joining Yahoo! For two years, we’ve worked incredibly hard to make it as easy as possible to get feedback from friends and followers. It has been so rewarding to build a product that scaled up to millions of people and supported large media properties and diverse brands — all while staying true to promise to deliver fun, engaging, real-time experiences,” GoPollGo stated on its site.
No news yet as to how much Yahoo has paid for the companies. but the firm stated that the acquisitions are both talent and technology buys. The services will be incorporated in Yahoo’s efforts as they will all be shut down in a matter of weeks, meaning that users will have to move quickly to download data they need. Astrid will continue to operate for the next 90 days but will no longer accept new subscription members.
“As part of the transition, the MileWise service will be shutting down. It’s tough to say goodbye to something we’ve dedicated so much to. But, we’ve tried to make it easy to take your data with you. We’ll be sending everyone an email with instructions on exporting your data, and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to email us,” MileWise stated.
