LIVE: Is VMware Eating its Own Lunch with vCloud Hybrid Service?

Updated with full video – see below.

On today’s SiliconANGLE Live NewsDesk Show, (see embed feed below or visit youtube.com/siliconangle to watch on-demand), we learn about VMware’s first public infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud product, dubbed the vCloud Hybrid Service.

Gartner Inc. estimates that sales of Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) will surge by an average of 38 percent annually to $30.6 billion by 2017 from $6.17 billion last year. VMware introducing its IaaS puts it in direction competition with Amazon AWS. Furthermore, when VMware bundles its IaaS with all of its in-house software, VMware’s cloud also provides an alternative to the virtualization/cloud synergy of Microsoft’s Hyper-V + Windows Server + Windows Azure.

Here’s the interesting thing: VMware has been selling cloud infrastructure software to service providers for several years, so its vCloud Hybrid Service could be directly competing with VMware’s own partners now.

Joining us now to tell us more about vCloud Hybrid Services is Wikibon Senior Analyst Stu Miniman. (See the live broadcast, embed below ~ if you missed today’s live topic, check our YouTube channel for archived clips.)

Some of the things we’ll be discussing with include, VMware vs. Amazon Web Servies and how VMware stacks up, the rapid growth of Infrastructure-as-a-Service, and the pricing wars of VMware, Amazon and Google public clouds.
