What Does Vine for Android have on iOS? ZOOM
Fandroids rejoice! Twitter has finally released the Android version of Vine, it’s popular mobile app that let’s users take and share six-second video clips.
It may not be a huge deal for most Android users, but socially-inclined Fandroids will surely say otherwise.
When Twitter launched Vine earlier this year it garnered a lot of attention, especially when users quickly learned that it is a great tool for sending explicit content, something that caused it to almost be blocked in the App Store (it was later given a reprieve, although Facebook blocked Vine users from finding contacts using the app).
So what’s up with the Android version, and does it offer anything that’ll leave iOS users drooling?
Android vs. iOS
First let’s discuss what the two apps have in common. Both versions feature easy video creation with automatic playback and sound; they also have the Explore function, where you can discover popular posts and see what’s trending; then there’s Find Friends, which allows users find and invite people they know to join; and Share posts to Twitter, so people can watch your clips right there in your Tweet.
Okay, that’s settled, so what’s different with the Android version? I’ll tell you what’s different… “Zoom”.
Yup, you can now zoom in or out while taking a looping video, setting a new perspective for viewers. But unfortunately, many of the iOS features such as support for front-facing camera, search, mentions and hashtags, sharing on Facebook are not yet available for the Android version. However, Twitter says that they soon will be, along with other bug fixes to make the app more fun to use and we suspect, even better than the iOS version.
Those with devices running Android 4.0 or higher can now download the app for free on Google Play.
So far, it looks like most early Android adopters are quite satisfied with the app, based on the reviews submitted to Google Play. However, there have been a few complaints about the lack of features. You can’t blame the users though, the app description on Google Play is pretty confusing. It makes it appear that the features are already available, even if they’re not. Be patient Fandroids, the updates will soon come. ;)
