What to Expect from #HP Discover 2013 : Flash, 3PAR + More

Hewlett-Packard has had an interesting year so far, facing the mounting challenges of a rapidly changing marketplace and working to justify its string of acquisitions in recent years.  At HP Discover 2013, which kicks off next week at the Venetian|Palazzo meeting center and Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas from June 11-13, 2013, we hope to hear more on HP’s long term goals in the storage market, particularly as it pertains to Flash adaptability and fully integrating an earlier storage buy, 3PAR.

This year HP Discover features several general and breakout sessions, along with hands-on labs and workshops on top of attending keynotes from Meg Whitman – HP President and CEO Meg Whitman, HP EVP and COO Bill Veghte, EVP HP Software George Kadifa, EVP and GM of HP Enterprise Services Mike Nefkens, EVP and GM of HP Enterprise Group Dave Donatelli, and EVP of HP Printing and Personal Systems Group Todd Bradley.

HP’s recent developments

 

At HP’s second quarter earnings call this year, the company announced that its converged storage solutions increased by 48 percent from last year to $349 million, while its traditional storage solutions declined by one third to $508 million.  We can expect that focus at this year’s event will be on HP’s 3PAR equipment, which is part of its converged storage solution and experienced an 82 percent increase this year.

HP is in the midst of restructuring and though HP missed analysts’ estimates for the second quarter, its stocks went up.  According to Wikibon Chief Analyst Dave Vellante, HP needs to shrink in order to grow.  And in order to do that, HP needs to “figure out how to get its organic inventions out of HP Labs and into the pipeline, but it’s also got to make better acquisitions and do a better job of integrating them into the massive HP engine.”
