Sub $100 3D Peachy Printer Smashes Kickstarter Goal With Over $350,000

3D printing and scanning is all set to go mainstream and becoming more affordable. These three-dimensional printers are getting cheaper and reduced to a size at which they may well be used in offices as well as homes. While people are still speculating on just how cheap 3D printers can be, here comes the latest idea: Peachy Printer, a device that’s promising to retail for less than $100.

The sub-$100 Peachy Printer is a Photolithographic printer, and uses a controlled beam of light to cure light sensitive resin into hard objects. The laser beam is guided by a pair of mirrors that take instructions from your PC’s audio in/out ports, and the system even allows you to scan objects with your own camera. Recently, the makers of Peachy printers started a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of raising CDN $50,000. As of now, it has already got $363,282 CDN ($352,735.20 USD) pledged against its goal, which is simply awesome!

The company behind Peachy Printer has pitched it as “affordable, small, lightweight, and unique–with a class all its own!” Apparently, the sub-$100 price tag is the USP of this 3D printer. Here’s what the manufacturers have mentioned on their Kickstarter campaign page.

“We want to lower the cost and difficulty of 3D printing to a point where it’s accessible to the masses. We want the 3D Printer to become a household item. We want 3D printing to become a common part of life. We want you to have the choice: Should I buy it or should I make it?

With a Peachy Printer (scanner) on your desk, you can choose to make it. This is the world’s most affordable 3D printer!”

So actually, 3D printers are picking up momentum, especially the low cost ones. Last time, we saw The Buccaneer, a 3D printer that can be used by masses. Created by Pirate3d, a Singapore-based startup, The Buccaneer Kickstarter campaign raised a whopping $1,438, 765 from 3520 backers, greatly exceeding a goal of $100,000. The USP of The Buccaneer is that it is economically priced at $347 and can be used to print any appliance. It utilizes the fused filament fabrication (FFF) process to produce 3D prints. You can print from an open library of objects on Pirate3D’s servers, submit your own designs, or print .stl files from your computer. Besides, there is a smartphone app for manipulating and printing the objects from the cloud library.

Talking about the 3D scanner, which is still a nascent market, The MakerBot company began taking pre-orders for its long-awaited portable home 3D Scanner Digitizer. Those who wish to be among the first buyers of the device will have to pay $1400 for it, plus another $150 for access to support services and a maintenance program.
