Dell is strengthening its foothold in the Oracle ecosystem with new solutions and services for relational database users. Most notable among the vendor’s latest offerings are the updated versions of Toad and SharePlex.
Toad, a widely-used database development and administration platform, now features multi-tenancy, diagnostic messaging and improved provisioning capabilities, as well as a reworked ETL engine. Like the new release of SharePlex, it adds support for the recently unveiled Oracle Database 12c. Dell’s replication tool also introduces a Hadoop connector that lets enterprises copy structured data from their relational databases into HDFS and HBase.
Toad and SharePlex are joined by an improved version of OpenManage that offers support for Oracle’s Enterprise Manager 12c and enables admins to manage databases, apps and infrastructure from a single pane of glass.
“For nearly two decades, customers have depended on Dell’s software solutions to manage their Oracle database environments,” stated Darin Bartik, an executive director of product management for Dell’s Software group. “By delivering robust support for Oracle Database 12c in Toad and SharePlex, we’re reaffirming our commitment to providing end-to-end solutions that enrich customers’ overall Oracle experience. In addition, with the launch of SharePlex Connector for Hadoop, we’re giving Oracle customers the ability to more seamlessly manage data and information across increasingly complex environments.”
On the hardware side, Dell rolled out a set of Active Infrastructure reference architecture for Oracle Linux and Oracle VM. The lineup is complemented by a suite of lifecycle management services that aim to help large and medium-sized companies realize greater returns on their Oracle investments.
The announcements come on the heels of a similar update from NetApp. The storage vendor announced new plugins that offer a unified interface for monitoring storage infrastructure and replicating and provisioning databases.
