CES 2014: Wearable Tech highlights

The Consumer Electronics Show 2014 should be an exciting year for wearable tech.  For fashion-forward techies, CES will feature a new TechZone where attendees will get to experience the latest tech offerings from top brands.

“From jackets that adjust based on outside temperatures to solar-charging handbags and more, innovations in wearable technology are shaping the industry,” said Karen Chupka, senior vice president for International CES and corporate business strategy, CEA. “The FashionWare TechZone integrates style, function and technology to create a wow-factor, high-tech space at the 2014 CES.”

Here are just some of the developments in wearable tech we can expect to see at CES 2014’s TechZone:

Wellograph

This smartwatch features a 1.26 inch, low-power LCD screen with an integrated front light, Sapphire crystal for the face of the watch, stainless steel and aluminum body and an all-weather genuine leather/nato strap.  The Wellograph will come with a tri­-LED heart­ rate sensor, a nine-axis motion sensor, and integration with your iOS or Android smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0 LE so you can easily see your charted progress.

You can choose between an analog and digital watch face for the Wellograph smartwatch, and monitor your heart rate, exercise progress, steps taken and other activities with this device.  It is able to continuously record data for four months, and a single charge lasts up to two weeks if you only use it in watch mode.  The Wellograph comes with a magnetic charging dock, and the watch automatically shifts to landscape mode when docked so the time is easily viewable while charging.

Velodyne

Marta Thoma Hall, President & Chief Creative Officer of Velodyne, oversees the design and development of new products which includes its growing line of sleek, lightweight over-ear, on-ear and in-ear headphones and accessories.

At CES 2014, Velodyne will be showcasing more of these fashion-meets-function wearable devices that can be customized to user’s preference with high-fashion skins. Skin designs were created by Hall as well as other artists such as Lucas de Alcantara, Francesco Orazzini and Abel Del Rio.  At FashionWare, the TechZone are for all things wearable tech, Hall and will make a panel appearance with, Artefact User Experience Design Jennifer Darmour, Phone Halo CEO Chris Herbert, Founder, AvocSoft and CEO of FashionTEQ Judy Tomlinson, and MC10 Marketing and Product Management Jillian White to address how style and fashion can make technology more interesting and appealing to consumers.  Velodyne will also be striding down the catwalk of the FashionWare Show at CES 2014.

FashionTEQ

This is a line of smart accessories that will have any woman looking fab and stylish, yet tech savvy.  FashionTEQ’s first products include a wearable smart bracelet, a ring and a pendant.  FashionTEQ was founded by Judy Tomlinson who aimes to bring women and technology together by creating fashion and tech forward jewelry pieces.
