Ultra HD porn is on the way: Up close and very, very personal

Is the resolution of your pornographic videos really that important? Or are you happy with those grainy old videos you typically view on XXX-rated sites, so long as you have something to get off on?

One porn company believes that viewers will be happier watching ultra-high definition porn videos, in the belief that viewers will be able to feast their eyes on the action as is they were actually there in real life. Which is why Naughty America has announced its willing to spend hundreds of thousands to transition from shooting porn in HD to porn in glorious 4K.

“The closer we can come to making it feel like you’re there, the more successful we are,” Naughty America CEO Andreas Hronopoulos said in an interview with The Verge. “Our customers want to get as close to reality as they can get, without reality getting in the way.”

But this is a huge risk the company is taking. If ultra HD video doesn’t take off, the company stands to lose everything since it will cost more to store and edit its naughty flicks in higher resolution. Even so, Naughty American can take encouragement from the fact that there are dozens of companies already investing in 4K. YouTube is now streaming 4K videos, and at CES 2014, Netflix and Amazon announced their own plans to embrace UHD. And of course, the big TV manufacturers like Samsung are going all out on 4K hype, tying up content partnerships with providers such as Comcast, Netflix, and DirecTV.

Though 4K porn seems to be revolutionary, Naughty America isn’t the first one to venture into ultra high definition erotica. We have Huccio to thank for that. Last year, the company was the first in the porn industry to master and release 4K videos.

There’s an argument that 4K porn could be a bit yucky to watch, since everything will be clearly visible – not just the ‘action’, but things like moles, scars, blisters, hair, moisture, jiggly parts and so on. However, Toni Tsai, one of Huccio’s creators, stated that it won’t be nearly as bad as all that, since they’ll be very careful during the shoot as well as in post-production.

But seriously, would you really want to see every single detail when you’re watching porn? Wouldn’t it be a turn off to see unsightly blemishes on the actors and actresses? Then again, perhaps connoisseurs of naughty videos will be willing to overlook these details, as they’ll be too engrossed with the ultra clear images of organs smashing together :)
