Data is the lifeblood of applications | #HadoopHudson
Cisco really wants people to understand the value of the infrastructure, and where Big Data fits into modern IT. That means Cisco also needs customers to understand the entire Hadoop platform, including the analytics and software that goes on top of the open source data management tool. “We’re demonstrating how we bring value there,” explained Jim McHugh, VP of UCS Marketing for the network hardware provider.
Like many other IT companies, Cisco is building a business around data and must educate clients of Hadoop’s real-world business capabilities in supporting data-driven services. During a live interview at the recently concluded Hadoop on the Hudson party, McHugh discussed the challenges and opportunities surrounding Big Data and Hadoop adoption at Cisco.
“There’s so much going on in Big Data. Innovation comes from data, and really without data the applications have nothing to fuel anymore, they are the lifeblood of applications,” said McHugh.
