Smart devices track fevers, prevent “text neck”

You may have what experts call ‘text neck,’ a condition wherein one suffers from poor posture due to prolonged use of gadgets such as smartphones and tablets. A device called Fineck aims to help people prevent or correct text neck, as this smart necklace alerts you of poor posture and offers games to help you exercise your neck.

Also featured in this roundup are Fever Smart, a smart temperature monitoring system, and First Derm, an app that helps in the early diagnosis of skin problems to reduce unnecessary and costly visits to dermatologists.

NFC + Bluetooth tracker + memory: Meet the Aviador wallet

 

Tired of always losing your wallet or carrying too many things in your pockets? Aviador Co. presents you with the Aviador smart wallet. It features NFC capabilities, which allows you to pay for things by tapping the smart wallet to a compatible terminal, and can also be used to unlock NFC-enabled doors. You can use your smartphone to locate your lost or misplaced Aviador, or use the Aviador to locate your smartphone.

The Aviador also has a feature that alerts you if your wallet is being opened when you are not with your wallet, and also comes with a panic feature that, when activated, could help track your location or the location of your wallet when you get mugged. The basic model is pre-selling for $75 while the version with the complete features go for $145.

Ghost Drone maker Ehang raises $10M

 

Ehang, Inc., maker of aerial photography drone Ghost Drone, raised $10 million in a Series A round of funding led by GGV Capital that included PreAngel Partners, Xu Xiaoping and Nick Yang.

The funding will be used to grow the company’s workforce of 17 employees, particularly to expand marketing efforts, as well as to improve its software development kit and increase research and development.

LG’s Smart Control for HomeChat

HomeChat, LG Corp.’s virtual assistance service that lets people talk to smart appliances such as refrigerators, ovens and air conditioners, will be getting an upgrade this year thanks to the company’s collaboration with a popular messaging app by LINE Corp.

The integration of LINE to HomeChat will allow users to communicate, control, monitor, and share content using text and voice messages on their mobile device. The official announcement of the integration will take place at CES 2015 this week, but you can read early coverage of expectations for the LG-LINE team up here.

Brewie: the Internet of things comes to beer brewing

 

The Internet of Things has given connectivity to a lot of unexpected objects in recent months, including this craft beer brewer. Meet Brewie, a system that delivers “fully automated brewing …with [a] compact design,” the startup describes on its homepage.

This machine ships with all the ingredients you need to create your own beer, and it’s  4.3” touchscreen allows you to choose from over 200 beer recipes, with the option to experiment on your own brew. Brewie connects to your Wi-Fi network and you can use the Brewie smartphone app to make adjustments to your recipe and monitor your brew remotely.

Montblanc joins the smart watchband market

 

Montblanc International GmbH has entered the smartwatch market with its smart watchband. The newly debuted e-Strap that features a 0.9-inch monochromatic OLED touchscreen display with a 128×36 pixel resolution made from what the company calls “diamond like carbon coated steel” and “Extreme Montblanc Leather.”

The e-Strap delivers notifications such as calls, texts, emails, calendar reminders, social media alerts right on your wrist as well as doubling as an activity and fitness tracker. What makes it great is that you can purchase the $300 e-Strap and use it with your existing Montblanc watch–no need to purchase a whole new watch.
