As the first day of DockerCon came to a close, theCUBE’s Stu Miniman deemed the conference the “center of the universe for developers.”
If that’s the case, then the Cloud is the environment for that universe. As day two at DockerCon kicked off, theCUBE cohost John Furrier predicted that any company that’s not on the right side of Cloud will get left behind.
“Cloud computing has reached the tipping point of a new generation of infrastructure, and architectural change in that infrastructure, which will create massive disruption, massive innovation, massive wealth creation,” he said. “More importantly, it will have destruction effects. If you’re not on the right side of Cloud computing architecture, you will be driftwood.”
DockerCon represents “new innovation in the Cloud community,” he continued.
Cohost Jeff Frick discussed highlights from Day One, including noting that Lyft, Inc. software engineer Matthew Leventi said that new developers often push production code by the end of their first day.
Furrier concluded with more industry analysis. “The talk at DockerCon is about the standardization of the platform,” he said. “We need consistent run times, and software needs to run on multiple platforms. Amazon, Oracle, IBM, HP … they’re hustling to stay ahead.”
