This spring, HP announced plans to split its business in order to provide better services and support a new strategy and focus on start-up companies. During the HP Big Data Conference in Boston, MA, Chris Selland, VP of business development at HP Software, Big Data, sat down with John Furrier and Dave Vellante if theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s Production media team.
Selland discussed the upcoming HP split into two Fortune 50 companies: HP, Inc., for print and PC solutions, and HP Enterprise, which will house Big Data, software and enterprise services. Selland acknowledged the driving force behind HP’s split and expanded focus: “Big data is not just an IT topic anymore … more and more and more its about ‘What can I do with all of this data?’ [and] ‘How can I use it to transform my business, stay ahead of my competition?’”
HP is vamping up its Big Data services, moving toward helping solve problems and connect with a new generation of developers. At the conference, it also announced a growing focus on start-up companies and wanting to be the go-to platform for the next generation of popular web tools, social media platforms, eCommerce sites and everything in between.
The newly launching HAVEn Accelerator Program — a year-long program for developers working on generation one ideas and who want access to a scalable platform without the cost — is now on the table. Selland describes it as “a bridge program for those early stage developers who want to really start taking something into production and really building out this next generation of Big Data solutions, analytic solutions, in different vertical markets, horizontal markets — we want to be able to help them and enable them and take the price barrier out of the equation.”
