Storage and security may not be the biggest buzzwords in the industry; however, at the Amazon re:Invent 2015, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) is rapidly creating products in these areas that are making it easier for enterprise to deploy to a cloud environment.
Tim Prendergast, founder and CEO of Evident.io, Inc., spoke with John Furrier and Brian Gracely, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas about his company’s involvement in making AWS cloud services a safer environment.
Founded by Amazon’s largest customers, Evident.io embraces a mission statement to help every customer maintain a secure cloud infrastructure on AWS platform. They want the enterprise customers to know that the AWS public cloud service is secure.
According to Prendergast, customers are still not aware that shifting to the cloud bring value faster and they just do not know the value of the cloud. His company’s Evident Security Platform is helping customers make the move to AWS. Additionally, he said, “The latest announcements will vulcanize security deployment and enable the enterprise to move fast and act fast.”
So what does Prendergast think is exciting in security? He believes AWS is enabling faster deployment, faster feedback and much needed security. “We now have the ability to have real-time infrastructure assessment and visibility into cloud with a higher security level,” he said.
Prendergast believes that there are not enough security people on the planet and many IT professionals are taking on security without even knowing it. He is excited because the industry is moving to an API-centric environment and he said that the more things become real time, it enables the customers to do things they never could before.
He explained that with security breaches, exposure is too late and generally picked up after the fact. With the Evident Security Platform, security can pick it up and abnormalities before production and provide the raw meta data to DevOps so they can redeploy.
Furrier pointed out the storage and security are often not thought of as “sexy” when it comes to innovation. He and Prendergast disagree, because they see the momentum in the industry coming from these two areas.
“Everything you do must have checks and balances in order to respond. With real-time information, you can respond in seconds. It’s revolutionary,” said Prendergast.
His thoughts about the show are, “Amazon never slows down; it accelerates. Now you can adopt technology that helps you do things you have never done before.”
