How to quickly discover the value of data | #HPEDiscover

The Analytics & Data Management Practice division at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE) endeavors to lead the idea economy for the enterprise by helping customers realize the potential of their data.

Martin Risau, senior VP and GM of the Analytics & Data Management Practice at HPE, spoke with John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during HP Discover 2015 event in London about creating the data-driven organization.

Building data-driven organizations

“It’s about disruption or being disrupted, and data plays the essential role,” Risau said. He explained that while the data-driven organization is not a new concept, the company has deliberately elected to use the term because with the advancements in technology over the past two years, the data-driven organization is a new concept.

“Think about where the exponential growth in data is – it’s in the machine data, to the human data, and it all resides next to the business data,” Risau said. HP’s vision of the idea economy is to help the customer mine and harness the data in order to enable businesses to become disruptors in their own industries.

“The premise is to quickly go from idea to insight to outcomes,” said Risau. His team is helping the enterprise to test and learn efficiently using a fail-fast approach. The company’s discovery environments bring everything to the customer in terms of how to set up a data or digital lab to enable the customer to learn how to test ideas and move them quickly to business operations.

Moving to an idea economy

The company has also identified three areas to help the customer build their data-driven organization. Risau tells customers to:

1) Discover the value of data: By using a fail-fast approach, it is easier to identify the useful data.

2) Build a data-centric foundation: Build the right infrastructure for the organization’s workloads.

3) Focus on superior business outcomes: Use prepackaged solutions and put them together with HPE resources and partners to scale more quickly.

Risau estimated that about 20 percent of organizations are utilizing data and really moving with brutal force, while the rest are still testing. “We are showing that we are serious about taking our customers to the idea economy.”
