HPE’s quest to be on the bleeding edge of innovation | #HPEDiscover

During the last day of HPE Discover 2015 in London, excitement around Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co.’s (HEP’s) unveiling of its “composable” Synergy infrastructure has taken some of the attention from HPE’s other developments, but the company’s team are still quite proud of the less-spotlighted accomplishments.

Dominic Wilde, VP of global product line management for HPE, spoke with John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, covering a huge range of topics on implementations and strategy for his department and HPE at large.

Networking and convergence

An early point of discussion was the acquired Aruba Networks, Inc. subcompany of HPE and the effect Aruba has had on unifying connectivity goals and setting wireless as a primary connectivity solution. “A lot of the focus with the Aruba acquisition, the strategy, was around bringing together the wired network and integrating the wireless network together and creating an access layer,” Wilde said.

“As we move forward, wireless becomes a primary form of connectivity in the enterprise, and then in the future, you’re going to get all these IoT devices … some of which are still going to connect in a wired manner,” he continued. “You don’t want to be having two different operational models for that, and so you want a single policy management security model, you want a single sort of analytics model, you want the visibility, the trouble-shooting of it all to be a single model.”

Integration and involvement

Moving on to some of HPE’s other goals, Wilde explored ways in which the company is advancing mobile engagement with end users and exploring ways of advancing Aruba infrastructure to companies that have not yet depreciated their existing hardware but that want to take part in the new engagement options.

He also addressed HPE’s prioritization of helping companies achieve a better user experience while reducing their operational overhead, and their examination of the ways in which IoT is a much older concept than it’s generally considered to be in an effort to bring the various standards and implementations of the ‘old world’ IoT into modern form.

“Today, most IT shops now are finding that ‘line of business’ is actually defining what they need to do, and that they are in partnership with line of business and they’re creating true business outcomes and value for the customer,” Wilde said. “You can’t do that if you’re just kind of following along in the industry; you have to be on the bleeding edge of innovation.”
