Each year more and more companies launch smart home gadgets to make our lives easier and more secure, and 2015 was no different. With the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) starting on January 6, we can expect to see a large range of new products that will enable your smart home to get even smarter.

However, before we get to the exciting technology and innovation that the smart home will present for 2016, here is a snapshot of some of best smart home tech from 2015.

Control your smart home gadgets with one device

Amazon Echo

Amazon Echo, a combination of a personal assistant and a Bluetooth speaker, has proved very popular for smart homes this year. Amazon Echo is a great way to control your smart home gadgets, including Philips Hue, WeMo, Samsung SmartThings, Wink, Insteon and more, using just one device. The Amazon Echo was one of the top items ordered on Amazon this Christmas Eve.

Protect your smart home

Nest Cam

The Nest Cam ensures your home is always secure, providing you with 1080p streaming, advanced night vision, activity alerts and integration with the Nest app. Monitor your home while you are away, or use it as a baby or pet monitor. Signup for Nest Aware and you can get continuous 24/7 recording, allowing you to go back and check what you missed.

August Smart Lock

This year, August Home, Inc. updated its smart lock to be Apple HomeKit compatible, and it now allows users to control the locking and unlocking of their doors using Siri voice commands. The company also expanded its range of products to include a Smart Keypad, allowing anyone with a passcode to enter your home. And, it works with one-time auto-generated codes.

August also launched a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-enabled Doorbell Cam, allowing you to get a 140-degree HD view of who is at your door. Receive alerts when someone is at your door, communicate with your visitors through audio and open the door for them.

Foobot

Launched in July by US Air Purifiers, LLC, Foobot is an indoor air quality meter that will allow you to control the air you breathe at home. The device monitors temperature, particulates, total volatile organic compounds and humidity. It synchronizes directly with your smartphone, iPod or iPad and provides air purity readings, as well as recommendations on how you can improve the air quality in your home. Foobot will make its official debut at CES 2016 next week.

Roost battery

The Roost battery allows consumers to make their ordinary smoke and CO² detectors smart. Simply swap out the ordinary battery for the Roost, and once paired with the company’s smartphone app, you can receive alerts if the power is low or if the device detects smoke. You can even assign emergency contacts who will receive an alert in the case of a serious fire.

Dojo

Making sure your smart home gadgets are secure is incredibly important, and one possible way to do this is by using Dojo. Dojo provides you with smart home security, will automatically block any attacks, and will alert you if you have to take any action.

Lighting your home

LIFX Color 1000

This year saw the launch of a new and improved smart lightbulb called the LIFX Color 1000. It is a brighter, more efficient version than previous generations, and the LIFX Color 1000 works with IFTTT, Nest Learning Thermostat, Apple Watch and Amazon Echo, among others. Create custom lighting scenes in your home or naturally wake up in the mornings with the smart bulb.

Keen Smart Vent

Smartly regulate the temperature in your home with the Smart Vent from Keen Home, Inc. The Smart Vent can easily replace the current vents in your home, and with the smartphone app, you can customize the temperature in each room to suit your needs.

Make your kitchen smarter

Smarter Coffee

This Wi-Fi-enabled coffee machine will brew you the perfect cup of coffee directly from your smartphone or tablet. Direct from the app, you can control the coffee strength, grinding of the beans and how many cups you want. When your coffee is ready, it will wake you up and keep your morning brew warm for 20 minutes. You can also schedule the Smarter Coffee machine to have a cup ready and waiting for you when you walk through the door after work.

Pantelligent

Never overcook a steak again with the Pantelligent, a smart frying pan that takes the guesswork out of cooking. The pan has a Bluetooth-equipped handle and a central temperature gauge. Simply touch your smartphone to the handle, and it will connect to the app. Work your way through one of the preloaded recipes and the app will give you instructions like when the pan is hot enough, when to add oil or when your steak is a perfect medium rare.
